The naval Battle of Buceo, took place between the 14th and 17th May, 1814, and it confronted the Spanish fleet, which was under the command of the Captain in charge of Montevideo's naval station, Mr. Miguel de la Sierra and the squadron set up by the Revolutionary Goverment of Buenos Aires commanded by Mr. guilelrmo Brown and his flagship called "Hércules" (depicted in the stamp). The Battle was fought in Buceo Port, nowadays located in Montevideo, Uruguay; the Revolutionary Government of Buenos Aires claim victory and that meant the end of the Spanish domination over the Eastern Province (the área where Uruguay is currently located).

La Batalla naval del Buceo, se desarrolló entre el 14 y 17 de mayo de 1814 y enfrentó a la flota española al mando del Comandante del Apostadero de Montevideo el capitán de navío Miguel de la Sierra y la fulminante escuadrilla formada por el gobierno revolucionario de Buenos Aires que comandaba Guillermo Brown y su buque insignia “el Hércules” (ilustrado en el sello). Dicha batalla se libró en el Puerto del Buceo ubicado actualmente en Montevideo, Uruguay, y resultó en una completa victoria para el gobierno revolucionario bonaerense y en el pronto fin de la dominación española sobre la totalidad de la Provincia Oriental (actual territorio de Uruguay).
